- v1.1
-
- Welcome to the DEFCON 1 documentation file. DEFCON 1 is
- missile command type game. The object is to intercept ICBMs
- that are careening toward your cities. To protect your peace
- loving cities you are given a limited amount of bombs. Special
- weapons can be earned as you reach further rounds. Special weapons
- require more of your arsenal that regular bombs. Bonuses are given
- for bombs and cities remaining after each round. A more detailed
- explanation can be found in the instructions offered in the game
- itself.
-
- - TECHNICAL STUFF:
-
- The DEFCON 1 - v1.1 must include the following files:
-
- DEFCON1.EXE
- DEFCON1.DOC
- SCORES.HI
- Note: To reset the high scores, just delete SCORES.HI
-
- To run this games needs a color VGA monitor and a VGA card
- that can support 640x480 16 color graphics. You also must have a
- two or three button mouse or track ball as well as just about any
- installed mouse driver for this game to be played. About 200K of
- free RAM memory is need. I apologize for speed it might run at
- when many objects are on the screen at once. Turbo C's graphics
- routines are very slooooow at times. I recommend that you run
- this on a 286 12 MHz machine or faster. A memory cache-ing system
- may help somewhat. I made an effort to make this game run at the
- same speed on much faster machines. On extremely fast machines
- there is a slight difference though. You can increase or decrease
- the speed of the mouse pointer. (+) increases and (-) decreases
- mouse speed.
-
- This program was written entirely in Borland Turbo C v2.0 It
- required approximately 14 months of off and on programming at
- Parkland College (Champaign, Illinois) to complete. Thanks go to
- Chris Robinson and Aaron Cortelyou for their help with the beta
- testing. Also I'd like to thank Jeff Koenke and Herb Schildt for
- their programming help.
-
- - SHAREWARE PART (a.k.a. the nag):
-
- The DEFCON 1 v1.1 is Shareware. You are free to give copies
- to your friends and family. You may also upload it onto any
- bulletin board if you wish. Every attempt has be made to make is
- game as error and bug free as possible. This program should NOT
- crash you computer. I had no major problems while testing it on
- many different PCs. Never the less, bugs do pop up. If any
- problems do occur, please notify me (address listed later.) If you
- enjoy this game and want to keep it, a $10 donation would be greatly
- appreciated (Pleeeeeease...I'm a poor college student.) If 10 bucks
- is to steep, it's only $5 if you also enclose some comments and/or
- suggestions about this game. I don't mean in great detail,
- (unless you want to of course) just some feedback good or bad.
-
- In return, you will be able to receive the most recent upgrades of this
- game and possibly other games to be written for FREE (what a bargain!
- Sorry Eddie Murphy.) The source code is also available. Any other
- comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated as well.
-
- - DISCLAIMER:
-
- I take no responsibility for any problems DEFCON 1 v1.1
- may cause on you computer. At the time of release, this game
- was virus free. However this is no guarantee that problems will
- not arise. This program or its accompanying files should not be
- sold for profit or other wise. DEFCON 1 is in no way affiliated
- with Borland International or Parkland College. All rights are

- - BIO
-
- I'm a student at Parkland College transferring to the
- University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign next fall. I'm majoring
- in Engineering Computer Science. I work for USACERL (United States
- Army - Construction Engineering Research Laboratory) as a programmer.
- My hobbies include programming (of course), basketball, volleyball,
- and playing "old video games" i.e. Donkey Kong, Tempest, Pac-Man,
- Defender, Galaxians...etc. I think that today's video games have way
- too much kicking and punching. Not that that's all bad but most games
- just seems to be cookie cutter clones. My favorite music includes:
- R.E.M., De La Soul, Pearl Jam, Public Enemy, Miles Davis, 10,000 Maniacs,
- DAS EFX, Digable Planets, Beatles, among others.
-
- Well, I could type about myself all day but, hey enough about me.
- I would like to hear a little from you the player.
- Please send all questions,
- comments,
- suggestions, and
- donations to:

- I don't know how long I will have my CompuServe account so don't

- expensive.)

- Basically, I just hope you have as must fun playing this as I have writing it.
